About the Coast Guard House

The furnishings and decor chosen for the inn reflect the classic lines and purposeful design which characterized the American Arts and Crafts period of the early twentieth century.  Designs of the era stressed a return to fine craftsmanship and promoted simple, uncluttered interiors and have been known by other names such as Mission furniture and California Arts and Crafts.

In the tradition of last century's craftsmen, we have decorated the Coast Guard House with comfortable furnishings, quality linens, the work of local artists and craftspeople as well as mementos of the inn's maritime history.

With one foot in the twenty-first century, we offer wireless internet access to our guests provided by limited satellite service.  Due to our remote location and position at the bottom of a canyon with steep headlands on each side, high speed internet has not yet found us.  Still our guests may check email and surf the web.  Streaming video or audio and downloading as well as uploading larger files is currently impossible.  We continue to hope that line-of-sight high speed internet will come to Arena Cove soon.  In the meantime, there are other great things to do here.

Each morning we offer our guests a home-made breakfast featuring our own baked goods like ginger-pear muffins made from scratch; farm fresh egg dishes with seasonal vegetables like a potato-kale pie with tomatillo salsa and always a seasonal fruit salad, fruit juice and Sumatra french roast coffee and selected teas.  Our breakfasts change every day to keep your taste buds challenged and we try to accommodate elemental food restrictions.

We moved to the Coast Guard House in 1995 to realize our dream to live by the ocean and operate a bed and breakfast inn.  We looked for a quiet coastal town where we could raise our children and be around when they came home from school. Our kids are grown now, but our love for this area keeps us here.  We enjoy meeting new people and seeing returning guests year after year.  We happily share our appreciation of the beaches, the local scene and as everyone who knows us knows, the wine.  Welcome to this wonderful place!
