Artists' Studio Discovery Tour- 2008
Enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery that the northern California coast has to offer while visiting the personal studios of more than 40 of the area's most unique and talented artists. The 2008 Studio Discovery Tour takes place on Labor Day weekend (August 30 - September 1) and the following weekend (September 6-7). This free, self-guided tour along a 60 mile stretch of Highway 1, from Stewarts Point to Little River, is the perfect way to spend a leisurely day or an entire weekend. The participating artists you meet along the are happy to demonstrate the making of their art and share their unique vision.
A free 32-page, full-color catalog will help you make the most of your tour. It contains a description of each artist, along with a detailed map and directions to each studio. While on the road, look for the bright yellow signs to help guide you along the way. Note that the catalog is a must when visiting artists in The Sea Ranch, since directional signs are not allowed along that section of Highway 1. You can begin your adventure by stopping at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala (707-884-3896) and/or the Artist's Collective in Elk (707-877-1128) to preview the work of Studio Tour artists and to pick up extra catalogs with maps. Catalogs will also be available at the Gualala Arts Center, the Mendocino Arts Center, and various local galleries and businesses along the way. To receive your catalog by mail, so you can begin planning your own personal tour, e-mail the Tour Director, Scott Chieffo, at scott@gualalaarts.org, or call the Gualala Arts Center at 707-884-1138. You can also download the Studio Tour catalog in pdf format.
