Those who select this access do so for the rigorous 15 minute hike over the dunes and for the magical views of the lighthouse that is the reward.
Walk toward the lighthouse once you are at the beach and continue to the heavily populated Garcia River estuary. Depending on the time of year you can see pelicans or tundra swans, you can always view hundreds of noisy seagulls.
The Garcia River, one of the few remaining wild and scenic rivers in California, runs out to the Pacific here in the cliffs just below the lighthouse. Look closely, and you can see the caves carved deep into these rocks.
